I’m also announcing that for the next two weeks I won’t be updating “Love & Secrets” or “The Perfect Girl”. I apologize for this, but it’s necessary. I know how awful it is when you get the notification of a new update only to realize that this is just an Author’s Note.
BELIEVE ME! I KNOW!
But it is unfortunately necessary.
The reason is quite simple.
My grandma Lola passed away Saturday, September 25th at 10:54am.
She was 89 years old.
She was the mother of two daughters, grandmother of 4 grandchildren and great grandmother of 4 wonderful little great grandchildren. She was living in Platteville, WI, USA with her youngest daughter and son-in-law.
I was supposed to travel this Christmas to visit her as a surprise.
My grandmother was always the soul of the party, always surrounded by people, always spreading joy and positive spirit in spite of suffering from emphysema and macular degeneration.
She was a fabulous cook; she even had her own TV show during the 60’s. She had a strong fan base and a major successful recipes book of Ecuadorian Cuisine.
She died alone calling for help.
She was my inspiration.
She made me a better person.
She had faith in me, when no one else did.
She was my Grandma Marie.
I shall miss her dearly.
I’ll be taking care of all funeral arrangement here in Ecuador while my mother goes to the States to get her ashes. Unfortunately, I can’t go with her because the American Consulate denied me the visa a month ago, though I still have no idea why.
I’ll finish this note with a prayer for my Grandma Lola. We are Catholics; feel free to skip it if you not share our faith. I won’t be offended.
God of mercy, look kindly on Your servant Rosa Dolores Olvera de Verdesoto who has set down the burden of her years. As she served You faithfully throughout her life, may You give her the fullness of Your peace and joy. We give thanks for the long life of Lola, as her dear friends use to call her, now caught up in Your eternal love. Give her eternal rest, O Lord, and may Your light shine upon her forever. Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High.
We make our prayer in the Name of Jesus, Who is our risen Lord now and forever.
Amen.
I love you Mami Lola.
I’ll miss you every day.
